Wow...that is all I can say about this week's episode. Find out why after the jump!
- The show opens with the first ever Elimination Chamber debate. They set it up full politician style (if it were up to the crowd, Punk would have this in the bag) and I thought this was a brilliant idea. It could have been executed a little better for sure, but Punk and Jericho saved this segment with their interaction. I was shocked at The Miz's level of FAIL when it was his turn to speak, given that it's pretty much all he is good at. R Truth was also pretty funny here, so much so that his fellow superstars could be seen cracking a few smiles. Still, he didn't make much sense (it's probably because he is still suffering from massive brain damage after last week). Jericho is the master at turning shit into souffle and he does it again here. He is the MVP of this entire segment and he pretty much owned everything in sight tonight.
Silence, my jacket has something to say!
- Chris Jericho and Kofi Kingston put on quite a good match. Kofi has a new attitude and I like it. I'm on the bandwagon this time around, let's just hope it's not headed off the rails again. I thought it was pretty sick that Jericho countered Kofi's signature corner attack into a massive powerbomb. All in all, it's fucking amazing that Jericho has almost absolutely no ring rust after all the time he has been off. After a thumb to the eye, Jericho picks up the win with the Codebreaker.
- Zack Ryder tells John Cena that he is going to tell Eve how he really feels. John Cena informs him that the halls of a WWE arena are no place for an injured broski. He insists on finding Eve himself and bringing her back to the lockeroom.
- Up next, The Big Show is set to face Randy Orton. The match is a result of their fallout at the end of Smackdown last Friday. Daniel Bryan arrives at ringside to watch his master plan at work, hoping that these two will continue to tear each other apart. The match itself was good, but it could have been better. Randy Orton was a little off tonight, and it's probably because of the undeniable level of awesome Daniel Bryan was emitting from the announce table...
Oh, Don't mind me, I'm just the motherfukin' MAN!
Oh and there was this....
The always classy WWE audience promptly let him know that he fucked up...
- Shawn Michaels' music hits and finally, we have the segment we've all been waiting for. The story told between he and Triple H here was incredible. Triple H has gone from a cerebral, manipulative, badass with no mercy to a corporate puppet and Shawn told him exactly what everyone else has been thinking
Dude, you're a friggin' pussy...
Triple H admits to selling out and he says he needs to protect his investment by letting Undertaker continue his streak. Shawn thinks Hunter is full of shit and tells him to look him in the eye and say that he doesn't want to end the streak. Triple H says "no" and as he prepares to leave, another great video package featuring The Undertaker is played. Taker is shown cutting his hair with a razor and proclaiming that vengeance will be his. All in all, I thought this segment was the best part of the show.
- R Truth vs. Dolph Ziggler was a vey entertaining match. Dolph Ziggler's show off gimmick is pure money from where I stand. Still, he may have to tone it down a bit as his confidence cost him here, with Truth picking up the surprise victory.
- I'm still pretty high on Tamina Snuka, and I very much look forward to her match with Beth Phoenix this Sunday. She picks up another impressive win tonight over Brie Bella and her momentum going into the match makes the match pretty much the biggest Diva match they could book until Kharma returns.
- John Cena was backstage getting ready to cut a promo, when he heard Eve screaming nearby. Kane had forced her into an ambulance and was preparing to take off, when Cena arrived just in time to save the day. I thought this whole segment was masterfully done. Eve and John Cena kiss in the heat of the moment, much to Zack Ryder's dismay
Are you serious HO?
Poor Zack, ah well, Cena needed to let some of the edge off with everything that's been going on lately. Still, you can't help but feel bad for the broski. I don't ever think I've seen anything as pathetic as Zack during this whole episode. Eve explains that she just wants to be friends with Ryder, and it was just painful to watch.
- The MAIN EVENT match between The Miz and CM Punk was OK. Miz has been on a shit streak lately and I don't know if he even cares that he has been demoted back to the upper mid card. He needs to show some more of that fire he showed in his quest to become WWE Champion. To make matters worse, these two have almost zero chemistry together. The whole match just felt kind of off. CM Punk wins via Anaconda Vise.
- Thankfully, we got a great segment to close the show with. Cena's heel turn has been a long one, but I've enjoyed coming along for the ride. John Cena attempts to set things right by apologizing to Zack Ryder. He is met with a chorus of boos, and he then realizes that Kane has turned everyone against him. Zack Ryder comes down to the ring and looks beyond pissed. Cena, whom he thought was his best friend, backstabbed him and stole the woman he loves. Cena is also responsible for him being in a wheelchair, due to his feud with Kane. You could really relate to Ryder here if you've ever been stabbed in the back. He smacks John in the face and tries to smack him again, but EVIL Cena does not allow it...
Don't make me hurt you....
I swear, every time he even teases losing his cool, I get more and more into this storyline. I can't wait to see what happens this Sunday at the PPV, and that is the true goal here. Great work all around.
Afterwards, Zack Ryder tries to return to the backstage area and is interrupted by Kane, who tosses him off of the stage. It was a very scary bump and even a psycho like Mick Foley, tweeted that he wouldn't have taken it. Kudos to Zack for being willing to do this, even if it benefits a storyline he is not directly involved in.
Final thoughts: A pretty good show, but this far into the Road to Wrestlemania, I expect a little more. Either way, they did a good job at building towards the Elimination Chamber PPV, and for now, that is more important. I also would like to note that we have not seen the Funkasaurus in a while. I doubt any of you have even noticed. I hate to say it....who am I kidding I fucking love telling you "I told you so".
Overall episode rating: 7.0 (average)
What to watch if you DVR'd the episode: The Jericho-Kofi match, Triple H and HBK segment, and the botched RKO aside, the Big Show and Orton match was still a pretty good match. Also take a look at the Eve/Ryder/Cena/Kane segments.
