This week's episode of Monday Night Raw marked the beginning of what I believe to be the real Road to Wrestlemania. The primary feuds that will take place at the event, all began with some solid matches and a couple of classic segments. Find out which moments are worth your viewing after the jump!
Rise Above Hoeskis
- The opening segment of the show did a great job of setting up the return of 'old Cena'. Eve Whorres claimed that she was going to use John the way she used Zack Ryder. Cena buries Eve with some scathing remarks and heads backstage. Eve has lots of slutty heel heat now, hopefully they can make use of this. Maybe have her manage an upcoming heel superstar or enter a mini feud with her friend Kelly Kelly.
- Sheamus and Mark Henry had about as good of a match as they could. Sheamus still has a ton of momentum coming off his Royal Rumble win. He earns another victory here countering the World's Strongest Slam into the Brogue Kick.
- After a mildly entertaining backstage segment with Teddy Long and John Laurinitis, we have a match between Ezekiel Jackson and David Otunga for the bragging rights of both men. We also learn that there will be a battle royal to determine the number one contender for CM Punk's WWE Championship.
And the Santino saga continues.....
- Kofi Kingston and R Truth ended the impressive win streak of the Tag Team Champions tonight. I was a bit peeved by this, but it seems that they are trying to establish some noteworthy contenders for the Unified Tag Team Championships. That would also mean the end of Kofi's renewed singles push, which I was a fan of
- .CONGRADULATIONS to Ron Simmons on his induction into the 2012 WWE Hall of Fame! How fitting is it that in the final week of black history month, we induct the first ever black World Champion into the WWE's most prestigious group.
A well-deserved honor
- Chris Jericho delivers another solid backstage promo about CM Punk. He also promises that he will win the battle royal tonight. I thought that it was effective but I wish it had gone on a little longer.
- David OILtunga picks up a surprising win over Ezekiel Jackson. I guess this means that we no longer have to pretend that we actually like Jackson anymore.
- The segment between The Undertaker and Triple H was amazing! I still get the goosebumps when the deadman makes his way into an arena
The greatest icon in any industry
I wish i could see the douchebag who yelled "YOU SUCK" at Taker, say that to his face. What a fucking pussy, then again, when in your in a crowd full of shitbags, a shitbag you will become. Disrespectful fans aside, the interaction between these two legends, was everything I had hoped for. After baiting us for weeks, Triple H has finally accepted the phenom's challenge. He then informs us that these two titans will battle it out in a Hell in a Cell match! HOLY SHIT!!!!!!! I laugh at all of you who shrugged off the idea of a third match and I wish I could have seen all of your faces after this segment. It's interesting that these two have never crossed paths in a Hell in a Cell match, given the fact that they are the men most associated with it. The epic Metallica song played at the end of the segment, only added to the undeniable aura of badassness these two are going to bring with them on April 1st.
This war will immortalize them both
- Daniel Bryan has officially ended the Jeremy Lin inspired momentum of Santino Marella, again kicking his ass mercilessly in a brief but solid match. thank you sir, you are my hero.
- We learned two things from the divas tag match tonight that saw The Bella Twins defeat Aksana and Kelly Kelly. One, Aksana is a pretty shitty wrestler and two...
Kelly Kelly looks smokin' hot in black
.Match Rating: 2/5
- John Cena gave us the second best promo of the night with his heartfelt, honest and surprisingly inspiring rant on The Rock tonight. As great of a talker Rocky is, I don't really know if he can recover from the comments made by Cena tonight (yes, it was THAT good). Fuck turning heel, if this is what Cena plans on bringing every week leading up until Wrestlemania, then I'm on board. Welcome back John, we missed you. The Rock has since promised to bring the 'real truth' next week, I sure hope so....
- The MAIN EVENT was about as good as you'd expect (especially from anything involving The Great Khali). It sucks that Wade Barrett took a nasty fall after awkwardly trying to catch Dolph Ziggler. There goes another top star. Jericho wins and earns a WWE title shot by last eliminating The Big Show with a little help from Cody Rhodes. CM Punk's reaction...
Match Rating: 3/5
Punk then enters the ring and tries to offer a friendly handshake to Jericho to no avail. This one should be another classic and the Wrestlemania card appears to be more stacked then ever.
The Wrestlemania card so far:
The Rock vs. John Cena
Hell in a Cell match: Triple H vs. The Undertaker
WWE Championship match: CM Punk(c) vs. Chris Jericho
World Heavyweight Championship match: Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
Final thoughts: A decent show overall, even if there were a couple of dull moments. We have finally started to build towards Wrestlemania and ended the night the four main events officially announced. Good enough for me.
Overall episode rating: 7.5
What to watch if you DVR'd the episode: The Taker-HHH segment, John Cena's classic promo and the main event for the most solid action of the night.
