WWE Friday Night Smackdown Thoughts: 2/10/12

This week's show was just pretty entertaining overall.  Find out which segments are worth your viewing after the jump!

  • The opening promo by Sheamus was OK, it began to drag a bit for me.  Things got a little bit more interesting when Wade Barrett arrived (horrible theme and all).  Barrett promised to win the Smackdown chamber and I believe that he will.  These two have amazing chemistry together and a No DQ match at Wrestlemania between them could be great.  That being said, I could have done without Cody and The Big Show coming out and claiming the exact same thing that Wade did.  Cody Rhodes did make me laugh a bit with this great line though...

Still, THANK GOD The Great Khali didn't make an appearance here.   The man sounds as if he's got a tranquilizer up his ass when he speaks.  I'd rather hear Scott Steiner read poetry then listen to Khali stumble across a promo claiming to win a match we all know he is going to lose.  Khali did pick up a win over the increasingly boring Jinder Mahal afterwards though (what's with the turban holder by the way?) The match itself was pretty much what you'd expect given the poor work rate of both men.

Match Rating: 1/5

  • Daniel Bryan was the next to join the 'Teddy Long Cockblock Society' tonight, cutting in on Teddydore's Aksana time.  He then went on another vegan rant trying to talk his way out of his match with Randy Orton.  Unfortunately for Bryan, Teddy is so sexually frustrated at this point, I'd doubt he'd approve of anything.

My testosterone levels are through the roof playa
    • Beth Phoenix could be seen mouthing the words "ding ding...Glam Slam...ding ding", on her way to the ring tonight.  Truly fitting words considering how dominant she has been.  She then adds Alicia Fox to her list of victims.  Loved the (oddly sexual) post-match stare down between Beth and Tamina here  A match between the two at Elimination Chamber could be great if given the right amount of time.
    Match Rating: 2/5

    • What the fuck was Luis Guzman doing on WWE programming?  I don't care if he's The Rock's personal baby oil carrier, he is completely irrelevant to anything pro wrestling.  He's credited as being Rock's co-star in Journey 2.  I didn't remember seeing him in the trailer but it's probably because that giant lizard is more attractive than he is.  All jokes aside, at least this video showed a more honest side of The Rock and it made me look forward to his upcoming DVD later this month.

    • So Natalya's farts now produce enough toxins to kill a little person?  If we never have to see Hornswoggle again, then we may have finally found the purpose of her new gimmick!

Back to the island of misfit toys, Hermey

    • Up next, there was a solid tag team match that saw The Big Show and Sheamus defeat Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes.  I said it in my Raw review and I'll say it again, THESE TWO NEED TO BECOME A REAL TEAM!  Granted, they lost twice in a row, but if you take into consideration their awesome dissection of The Big Show tonight, then you'll realize that if they combine their amazing talents into a fully focused unit, they would be unstoppable.

They could call this move the 'Beautiful Barrage'

    Match Rating: 3.25/5

    • The Segment featuring AJ Lee and Michael Cole was surprisingly good.  AJ buries Cole for being a total Douchelord and Cole responds by....well, by BEING a total Douchelord!  Soon Daniel Bryan arrives and delivers another great heel promo.  I'm very proud of how far he has come since his arrival in the WWE.  As great as he is in the ring, NO ONE predicted the level of total awesomeness he would eventually get to.  I know you're a vegan and you don't drink beer Daniel, but *CHEERS* to you!  And another round for AJ for looking unbelievably cute, even when she's pissed the fuck off.

    Gawsh golly...you're REALLY mean Mister...

    • Ted Dibiase's song is so terrible, it makes Wade Barrett's theme sound like fucking Mozart.  I was almost offended he beat Hunico on this alone.  Then I remembered that I don't care enough about his matches to be angry.
    Match Rating: 2.5/5

    • The MAIN EVENT match between Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan was pretty good.  I have to admit that I expected a little bit more from two athletes of their caliber.  However, it was by no means a bad match.  Daniel Bryan gains another technical victory, this time over Randy Orton, due to interference by Big Show.
    Match Rating: 3.75/5

The show ends with Randy Orton and The Big Show brawling and Daniel 'the master manipulator' Bryan enjoying his handy work.

I thought this finish was brilliant, putting over D-Bry as the top villain on the blue brand.

Final thoughts: A solid episode that further established Daniel Bryan as one of the company's most valuable performers.  I now look forward to seeing Smackdown every week just to see how he will weasel his way out of trouble this time.

    Overall episode rating: 7.5

What to watch if you DVR'd the show: The main event for sure, the tag team match was pretty well done as well.  Promo wise, the AJ-Cole-Bryan segment was the best of the show.
