CM Punk is one of WWE's Elite

The facts don't lie!  And last Sunday's Night of Champions PPV made it official!  Find out why Punk is in some elite company after the jump!

Last Sunday, CM Punk turned back John Cena to retain his WWE Championship. As of today CM Punk has the 10th longest WWE Championship reign in WWE history with 304 days.  CM Punk won the WWE Championship at the 25th annual Survivor Series when he defeated Alberto Del Rio for the title.

If CM Punk keeps the title until December 5, 2012 he would have the 6th longest WWE Championship reign by passing John Cena's 380 day reign.  This will set him apart from every WWE superstar dating back nearly three decades.

The 10 longest WWE Championship reigns of all time:

7. Randy Savage, 371 days; (Winning the 16 Man Tournament at Wrestlemania 4, defeating The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase in the finals)

Thoughts

Without a doubt, Punk has now cemented his legacy by adding John Cena to the incredible list of opponents that have failed to take the WWE title off of him.  This is no easy feat.  Here's hoping he makes it through the rest of the year.

    1. Haha, back in those days, reigns like this were not uncommon. It's true though nowadays we would get far too bored with reigns over two years.

  2. Ok then Nash another claim to fame but I have a feelin Punk at least wants to pass him before losing the belt.

    1. Yes Nash's tenure as WWE Champion was very noteworthy, though he did not have a lot of great matches. Still, to remain champion for nearly a year is never easy. Hard to imagine just how far ahead of Bret Hart, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels he was in terms of momentum at the time.
