Extreme Rules 2012 Preview

This Sunday's PPV looks as if it will be one to remember.  That being said, who has the best chance of surviving the most dangerous event of the year?  Find out my picks after the jump!

United States Championship match: Santino Marella(c) vs. The Miz

Santino has been riding one of the biggest waves of momentum of any current WWE superstar as of late.  It's tough to say the same about The Miz.  Sure, the awesome one won Johnny Ace sole control over both Raw and Smackdown at Wrestlemania, but he's one of the only members of Team Johnny that has yet to reap any rewards.  A win over Santino here could be a good start, but I don't see it happening.

Winner and STILL US Champion: Santino Marella

Intercontinental Championship match: Big Show(c) vs. Cody Rhodes

The stipulation is still up in the air for this one, but that doesn't really seem to matter.  The Big Show has every advantage possible given the fact that no matter what stip they have, all signs seem to point to trouble for Cody Rhodes.  That being said, I wouldn't underestimate someone as cunning as Rhodes and even though everyone has been counting him out, I'm going to go out on a limb here and bet my money on Cody to regain his IC title.

Winner and NEW IC Champion: Cody Rhodes

Divas Championship match: Nikki Bella(c) vs. Beth Phoenix

With Beth Phoenix nasty ankle injury this past Monday, she won't be heading into Extreme Rules at 100 percent.  Nikki will also most likely have her sister Brie at her side to help provide enough of a distraction to help her walk out with the Divas title.  However, I'm going to throw this out there and assume that Kharma will make her triumphant return and destroy Nikki, ruining her post match celebration.

Winner and STILL Divas Champion: Nikki Bella

Falls Count Anywhere match: Randy Orton vs. Kane

Randy Orton has been a massive disappointment for a while now.  As a fan, I have to say that I find it a bit of a shocker.  Two years ago, Kane would have been easy work for Orton.....now....not so much.  Still, I fully expect Randy to earn the victory here, given his impressive track record in Falls Count Anywhere matches and I wouldn't be surprised if this match were the sleeper hit of the night as well.  Having finished off his feud with Kane, expect Randy to move on to bigger and better things, emerging back to title contention and finding his way back to the top of the card for the remainder of 2012.

Winner: Randy Orton

Two out of Three Falls match for the World Heavyweight Champtionship: Sheamus(c) vs. Daniel Bryan

I joked last week that we may see another squash here by management just as a way to thumb their noses at the IWC.  I pray that is NOT what happens.  Given the right amount of time, this could be a solid Match of the Year nominee.  Daniel Bryan will arguably be more over with the Chicago audience than everyone not named CM Punk, so another bullshit match may cause a riot.  Still, don't go getting your hopes up Bryan fans.  Even if these two go for an hour, I don't think Sheamus has any plans on letting the World title leave his waist anytime soon.  After this feud is over, I'm hoping Bryan gets drafted over to Monday Night Raw and enters into a feud with CM Punk.  It's too soon to assume that this is the current plan, but a man can dream.

Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion: Sheamus

Chicago Street Fight for the WWE Championship: CM Punk(c) vs. Chris Jericho

I know the majority of the IWC thinks that Jericho should and will win this match, but I beg to differ.  CM Punk has been arguably, the best WWE Champion we've seen in nearly a decade.  He consistently has the match of the night, he's beaten more than a handful of credible challengers (Jericho, Mark Henry, Alberto Del Rio, The Miz and Dolph Ziggler) and has more heart than just about anyone else on the WWE roster.  Throw in the fact that Jericho has played a ton of mind games lately, giving Punk more fire than he's had going into any of his previous title defenses.  I see Punk continuing as Champion not only through Extreme Rules, but throughout the summer as well.

Winner and STILL WWE Champion: CM Punk

Extreme Rules match: John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

John Cena has lost a lot of confidence since losing to The Rock at Wresltemania XXVIII.  That will play a great deal into this match.  Add in the fact that Brock Lesnar is one of the most intimidating forces the WWE has ever seen, and not only do I not see Cena winning here, but I would be surprised to see him walk out on his own two feet.  I'm not counting him out, he may surprise everyone by showing a whole new attitude and beating the hell out of Lesnar, but its highly unlikely.

Winner: Brock Lesnar
