In my review of New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Invasion Attack iPPV, I gave the main event match between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada the utmost praise. If you want to see just how good the match is for yourself, you can check it out below. It's one of the greatest matches I have ever witnessed.
I still need to watch more Misawa and Kobashi matches or any other significant 80s and 90s puroresu, as well as many Joshi matches but for me, this is one of the greatest matches of all time. Everything clicked finally. Without a doubt one of the best NJPW matches I've seen, and the best match since the promotions recent steep rise in quality.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. It's scary how good New Japan has been as of late. And this match may go down as the most significant of their definitive era. It's on the short list of the best NJPW matches ever.

DeleteAs a relative newcomer to puroresu, (only seen recent stuff e.g. 2012 onwards, Super J Cup 94 and Misawa/Kobashi 03) could you give me some recommendations of where to go next? I'd go from Rikidozan to Okada but I'm guessing it gets patchy in places, as I've not heard good things about NJPW's MMAcentric period. Wanna see some womans stuff too...

Sure thing man, I would start with any matches involving Misawa, Kobashi or Kawada from the 90s. Check into the five star matches tab atop the blog. Any puro (AJPW, AJW, NJPW, NOAH) match in there is worth viewing and gets a MAJOR recommendation from me. There are both old & new matches in there and women's matches as well. Plenty of good stuff to start with...many of those matches can be found on Youtube as well.
