Here are my thoughts from last night's Raw:
Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena: One of the best matches of 2012
This was an outstanding match that is a perfect example of what a Raw main event should be. Daniel Bryan worked the crowd into a frenzy, brilliantly deflecting the heat off of Cena and onto himself to the point that they were white hot, begging to see him get the shit kicked out of him. The action itself was electric, showcasing just how good both men really are. There was no wasted movement and the finishing sequence was as thrilling as anything else we've seen in 2012. Some more hype and a bigger venue and these two could have a Match of the Year on their hands.
Match Rating: ****
Oh, and there were some other matches too
CM Punk vs Rey Mysterio was good as well, but they've had better matches together. Show/Orton left a little to be desired and Randy has been a bit of a letdown as he has yet to have a really good match since returning. After weeks off television, we finally get some divas action, though it only served to showcase just why they were kept off TV. Ok that was harsh, and it was nice to have Kelly back, but there haven't been any real memorable divas matches in 2012. Christian/Del Rio also have worked better together. Miz/Kane was OK, and I'm fine with Miz losing, but it didn't make any sense in this instance. Overall, some forgettable action at best.
Highlights from the rest of the show
- Sheamus "borrowing" Del Rio's Ferrari was classic stuff that was a nice throwback to the Attitude Era. I really enjoyed the Great White's joyride.
- Am I the only one who thought Del Rio wearing his gear under his suit was similar to something from DC Comics?
- That CM Punk sure is one arrogant, cocky, sly, cunt-faced, self-centred asshole. Is it me, or does this make him 10x more awesome to you also? Don't you ever change you smarmy bastard.
- Wade Barrett's "fight club" vignette was amazing. The first rule of the Barrett Barrage, is that you don't talk about the Barrett Barrage.
- Ryback has pink eye. Ewwwwww.
- The "PG" logo just as A.W. is on screen was kind of funny, but Primo and Epico without Rosa Mendes? : (
- Damien Sandow again beat the living funk out of Brodus Clay. You're welcome.
- Heyman/Lesnar/HBK/HHH in one segment. Sold. Then again, Heyman could sell Herpes to a virgin.
- Ziggler/Jericho has me hooked. Can't wait for these two to tear it down.
- Nice to see A-Ry get a big win.
- Punk's passionate mic work in the final moments of the episode was outstanding. Gave me the chills.
Overall a very good episode of Raw and I look forward to seeing how things play out at Summerslam.
Episode Rating: 8/10
