The Rhodes Dynasty triumphs in the feel good moment of the year.
I won't be doing a full review of Battleground because frankly, there really isn't much to say about the show as a whole. A slew of predictable outcomes and a horrid ending to the main event may have many calling their local cable company and requesting a refund, but for me, there was only one reason to throw down your dollar to begin with.
The whole Rhodes vs. The McMahons storyline has delivered the goods both in and out of the ring and the culmination of what may go down as the best piece of cinema the squared circle had to offer in 2013 came to it's transcendent whole last night. From the unbelievable pre-match monologues to the Cross Rhodes heard around the world, this match had a little bit of everything. We all love a technical masterpiece and the folks over at New Japan Pro Wrestling have been consistently tossing up five star matches with each passing PPV, but when I spend my $55 on a WWE produced event, I come for the drama.
Emotion is something that has been the foundation of many a great rivalry throughout the history of pro wrestling and you'd be hard pressed to find a match with a better blend all the things that make WWE the biggest and best marriage of sport and soap opera in the world. Matches like this are why I watch pro wrestling. So even with all the negative attention surrounding the closing moments of the show, I still feel as if it was money well spent.
