Getting You Up To Speed On The 23rd NJPW G1 Climax

My money is on the Real Rock 'N' Rolla.

Whatup fellow puro marks it's that time of the year again!  The brilliant minds over at New Japan Pro Wrestling are currently delivering some of the most epic and cant-miss iPPV events of the year with their longest running tournament, the G1 (Grade One) Climax very well underway.

For those of you who aren't familiar with it, this is another heavyweight tournament similar to the New Japan Cup earlier this year with both tourneys granting their winner a shot at the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.  The difference however is that the Cup is a King Of The Ring elimination style event and the climax is more of a round-robin tournament.

Taking place over nine days, the tournament reaches it's climax (no pun intended) after every wrestler fights through the other opponents in their block and being awarded 2 points for each victory.  If there is a draw, both wrestlers will be awarded one point and the losing wrestlers will be left with nothing.  On the ninth day, the two wrestlers from each block with the highest score will compete against each other to determine who will earn the right to the #1 Contender spot.

Needless to say, every major star in the promotion would love to earn a shot at megastardom with a big win in this year's event.  And for the first time ever, all nine rounds are being presented live on iPPV for the world to see!  Thus far, four of the nine events have taken place and if you haven't been keeping score, you're missing out on some of the best matches of the year!  The Current Brackets and standings can be viewed below:

For more coverage of the finals be sure to check in next weekend when I wrap this whole thing up for you with an epic review of the final event.  Also, be sure you keep checking into the Top 25 to keep track of the must-see matches from the tournament.  Be sure you at least catch the finals if you can't view all of the remaining events, it's usually a cant-miss show.
